AMB is a leading international company that delivers a unique difference to the food and food packaging industry. From packaging design through to film production – all under one roof, a complete end2end process for their customers.

Print & Mail Runner has been a print supplier to AMB’s UK head office in Gateshead, Tyne & Wear for over 2 years. We have provided a number of different products including business stationery – business cards, letterheads, and compliment slips, and marketing collateral – leaflets, brochures, and pop-up banners. Then in December 2020, we were contacted by Jamie Davies their Marketing & Communications Director with an inquiry for some packaging for a new product line. The spec was for a bespoke, robust, printed cardboard outer box with a ‘lift-off’ lid and a ‘cut-out’ foam inner to hold a new range of plastic food packing they had developed and wanted to promote to their customer base.  The emphasis was most definitely on quality and although we did not have a great amount of experience with this type of product Jamie wanted us to source and project manage the supply. This was because we had supplied other packaging products to other customers and in Jamie’s words – “For me, I just wanted to outsource the project to someone I trusted, and I knew that Alastair and his team at Print & Mail Runner would provide me with what I wanted.”

So, we agreed to take on the project to supply 500 units. A fully costed quote was provided and approved. After searching for a supplier in the UK, then across Europe without success, a manufacturer was found in China. The spec was agreed upon, and artwork was supplied. The supplier then produced and sent a made-up sample so the size, quality, and spec could be assessed and approved. After some minor amends, the main run was commissioned, and timescales agreed. Initially, the boxes were going to be sent via Air Freight, but due to transportation restrictions as a result of both Brexit and the global pandemic, the cost of freight skyrocketed. Thankfully the timescale allowed us to re-route the delivery from Air Freight to Sea Freight and we managed to secure space in a container and all the required and relevant paperwork was completed and approved. After clearing customs at Felixstowe, the boxes were loaded and delivered to AMB in Gateshead.

Jamie commented “wow – this project was certainly not straight forward and there were a number of times when things could have gone very wrong. Thankfully, Alastair remained calm throughout the many twists and turns from beginning to end and we are all delighted with the finished product. I and my colleagues at AMB would have no hesitation in recommending Print & Mail Runner and will certainly be using them for all our printing needs and special projects from now on.”

From a Print & Mail Runner perspective this was a challenging project to manage and provided a great learning experience. We would like to thank Jamie and AMB for giving us this tremendous opportunity and for their patience and understanding in allowing us the time and space to overcome the challenges throughout the process.
