Print & Mail Runner have been a long-time print supplier to Distag, with first order being placed way back in Mark 2013 for a set of 500 business cards. Since then, we have supplied a wide variety of marketing products including leaflets, brochures, exhibition stands and banners, as well as all their business cards of curse 😀.
This year is a milestone for Distag because they are celebrating their 75th Anniversary and they are planning a number of special events to commemorate this momentous occasion. One thing that they decided was that they would like was a brand-new catalogue covering the whole of their range. In the past we had produced and printed individual product catalogues, but this one was going to be something special.
Jane Arnold, Distag’s Marketing Manager said during our initial conversations about their plans – “not to put too much pressure on, but this is going to be massive for us and I need your help and guidance on making sure it is a success” – so, no pressure then.
It was apparent that this was going to be a much bigger undertaking than their previous requirements. To give some idea, the catalogues we had produced in the past were anywhere between 136pp and a 144pp, but this one was going to be a colossal 288pp – wow! But, not only as the size of the catalogue going to bigger than anything they had done before, so was the print run – they wanted 2,000 of them. This turned out to be the biggest single order for Print & Mail Runner to date.
I received the spec from Jane and put together a quote, which was accepted and so we set about pulling together the artwork and getting it ready for print. The catalogue has a cover printed on 300gsm gloss with a gloss lamination and the inner pages were printed on 135gsm gloss and it is perfect bound with a printed spine. A standard procedure of any job we print is a pre-flight check. What this does is ensure that the artwork has been set up correctly – it is the right size, resolution, includes bleed and crop marks etc. If there any issues flagged, then these can be addressed. Because this was such a large job, we supplied a couple of ‘hard copy’ digital proofs so the everything could be checked, both by production and Distag. Once everything has been checked and approved then we could press the big green button to start production.
This is a comment from Jane – “I didn’t really understand how I needed to set the pages and cover correctly at first, but with Alastair’s guidance, patience and expertise I was very confident in the end. One thing I was really impressed with was their willingness to go the extra mile, especially with the proof they sent. This meant we could see and feel what the catalogue was going to look like before we committed to the full run. This put every one’s mind at rest.”
Once the catalogues were printed and delivered Jane contact us and said – “They look brilliant, even better than the samples because these ones have the lamination on. Thank you so much for all your help. On to the next project now.”
This was a fantastic opportunity and project for Print & Mail Runner, one that challenged and stretched us. But, through clear communication and support from all parties involved it went very smoothly in the end, which was great 😀.
